B.O.F 2018 OUTLOOK

Busaosowo Foundation began its operations in Kebbi State in February, 2018 poised with the objective of identifying and responding to the issues affecting youths, families and national development. One of the first things that worried us was the level of street begging. Surprisingly, a large number of those begging were those with disabilities. In response to this, we began #PROJECT#DAP- The Disabled Are People Too with the intent of helping persons with disability get integrated into the society. We began by launching advocacy programs on television persuading the society to see these special persons as people created by God and deserving a good life. We encouraged persons with disability to see themselves as having all it takes to be self-reliant. The television program ran for six months. In the same month we began operation, three of our team members volunteered as youth development coaches at the Kebbi State School of Special Needs where numerous personality development and carreer classes were organized to help the students and younger generation become confident in themselves and their abilities. We organized a public seminar on disability issues and skill acquisition for women with disability. This project focused on personal and social acceptance, education and empowerment.
In August, we began our second initiative called D. F. D. I (DELIVERED FROM DRUGS INITIATIVE) ,an advocacy group aimed at creating awareness on the dangers of drug abuse especially among youths considering the fact that the north has the highest rate of drug abuse among young persons. We meet with relevant agencies, traditional rulers, clerics and churches. We began neighborhood campaigns in areas with large population of young people. These campaigns yielded much impacts as the number of attendance grew. We also focused on secondary schools, teachers and parents. We visited and spoke at teens clubs across the state capital speaking on personality issues ,peer pressure and stress management. As part of efforts to bring necessary stakeholders together, a one day symposium was organized for parents and teachers with a view of finding ways to engage youths as an alternative to drug abuse. This symposium was well attended. Through the ministry of information, we featured on health programs broadcasted on Kebbi radio.
Knowing the power of the social media, we explored its platforms to reach a larger audience.
Our efforts came to limelight when the leader of the foundation won an award for development in the state given by the governing board of the NYSC .
In 2019, we wish to build on our efforts and expand in order to reach more people and do more for our country.
Thank you to all who have supported our course.
We are grateful!
