Ololade Ogunnubi is an award-winning scholar and social entrepreneur working to ensure safe spaces and equal opportunities for underprivileged children. In this interview with Project_Inspire,Ololade talks about the work she is doing through her nonprofit organization.

  PROJECT_INSPIRE: Can we meet you?
Ololade: I am Ololade Ogunnubi, an accountant, social worker, Gender Based Violence Advocate, Women and Girls Right Defender, an anti-corruption and social welfare activist. Founder Lola Cater For The Needy Foundation (LC4NF), Convener LolaVersation and CEO of Lola Grand Cakes and Events. I am from Lagos State.

PROJECT_INSPIRE: Tell us briefly your childhood experience.
Ololade : My childhood wasn’t much fun, I grew up in a family of 6, the eldest of 4 siblings. My parents gave us everything they could afford and took us out to places like the cinema, to the beach, eatery and many more, in Mum’s words “so that guys won’t entice you with all these” trust me it worked. Childhood wasn’t that fun, I never had that freedom or social life, rather I was playing more of a mentor role and the elder sister to my younger one and other youths and kids were looking up too. So that way I had to watch what I say, do, dress etc.

  PROJECT_INSPIRE: What’s your educational background?
Ololade : I had my primary school at High Scope Nursery/Primary School,Ketu Lagos and Secondary School at Anglican Girls Grammar School,Ijebu Ode,Ogun State. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Lagos State University, Post Graduate Diploma College Supply Chain Management, Post Graduate Diploma Chartered Institute of Warehousing and Material Management, Institute of Strategic Management, Nigeria (ISMN), Enterprise Operation and Customer Operation, Certified Entrepreneurship Development Professional, Project Management Professional (PMP), Nigeria Institute of Managers (NIM), Member ACA and ACCA.

PROJECT_INSPIRE: What are your contributions towards making Nigeria a better place?
Ololade : I am the Executive Director of Lola Cater For The Needy Foundation (LC4NF), a non-profit organization that improve the social economic development of persons in Nigeria through intervention such as providing and advocating for quality education, entrepreneurship training for women and youths and social welfare for in marginalized and rural communities in Nigeria and improving the living condition of Nigerians through targeted capacity building, advocacy, multidimensional engagement, and social mobilization.

PROJECT_INSPIRE: What have your achievements been?
Ololade : Our activities have revolved around education, entrepreneurship and social welfare. We have been able to reach out to over 10,000 students across 17 states in Nigeria, and provided entrepreneurship skills training for over 5,000 women and youths in Nigeria and 7 other African countries, Asian and Europe.

PROJECT_INSPIRE: What motivated you to do what you are doing?
Ololade : I did my One Year Compulsory National Youth Service in Nasarawa State during which I volunteered with Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) as a student teacher in a public school. Students hardly came to school and when they come, someone had to lure them to. Parents even boast about their girl child is the 6th wife to a local government chairman or their male child helping out at the farm for a pay.

PROJECT_INSPIRE: What has been your major challenge since you began your non-profit organization?
Ololade : Funding, language barriers and acceptance. Some people still perceive those in the nonprofit sector as people who are just out to make money for themselves.

PROJECT_INSPIRE: Many young people have great ideas, but lack of funds is always a stumbling block. What’s your advice in this regard?
Ololade : Work with the little you have, and you can use the result to apply for more. People want to see what you have done before, before they can entrust you with their monies.

PROJECT_INSPIRE: How have you been able to raise money to implement your ideas?
Ololade : Our major source of funding comes from personal funds, friends, family, and individuals who believe in the work we are doing. We also have been able to get grants from Catholic Relief Service (CRS) and Sub grants from Education as a Vaccine(EVA) Nigeria (UNFPA).

PROJECT_INSPIRE: Could you please share with us one or two experience(s) you have had in the course of your campaign that has/have impacted on you?
Ololade : My social development journey has afforded me different opportunities to meet with amazing personalities. I have learnt in the course of time to speak better and convey the proper message as occasion demands.

PROJECT_INSPIRE: What are your prospects in the next 5 or 10 years?
Ololade: We look forward to doing more in the area of poverty alleviation and strengthening our brand as a nonprofit organization.

PROJECT_INSPIRE: What do you think is the major cause of unemployment among the youth today and how can we get over this?
Ololade : A good number of young people lack the skills needed to be gainfully employed. I would employ youths to take advantage of the great opportunities available in tech and carve a niche for themselves.

PROJECT_INSPIRE: How can you be reached on social media?
Ololade : Twitter: Ololade Ogunnubi Facebook: : Ololade Ogunnubi Instagram: : Ololade Ogunnubi LinkedIn: : Ololade Ogunnubi

PROJECT_INSPIRE: The final word for the Nigerian youth.
Ololade:Let’s continue to create meaningful conversations around the issues that concerns.
